2009: The Sunday Salon – January 25th
I feel like it’s been a pretty productive reading week for me this week. I finished:
- Summer by Edith Wharton
- Plum Spooky by Janet Evanovich (audio)
- The Stupidest Angel by Christopher Moore (audio)
- Amelia Peabody’s Egypt – Elizabeth Peters
Summer I read for a book club meeting at a library in Roanoke. It was going to be the first book club meeting I’ve been to, and my track record with finding a book club hasn’t been great. So far, I’d struck out three times! So, I wasn’t holding my breath when it came to this group.
Turns out, there was no reason to worry! The book club was GREAT. There were 7 of us there, and I thought we had a really great conversation! I was really psyched when I left. The book we’re reading for next month is The Beautiful Things That Heaven Bears by Dinaw Mengestu. The extra nice thing about this club is that right now, the library buys all of the books and then lends them to us. That will probably end this summer, but I don’t mind having to track down my own books… it’s just a nice perk!
Yesterday I started reading The Brass Verdict by Michael Connelly (courtesy Miriam Parker at Hachette Books). I’m almost halfway through, and am really enjoying it. I haven’t started a new audio book yet, but I’m 95% sure I’m going to go with A Fistful of Charms by Kim Harrison. I love the Rachel Morgan series! Finally, in ebook format I’m still working my way through Claus by C. John Coombes. It’s taking me some time, but it is a beautiful story. I may be able to get it finished next week.
Finally, I think it’s about time I got off my rump and did another giveaway! I have a couple of books that I’ve been saving for that purpose, so look for one of them this week!
Have a great week of reading!

I can’t wait to see what you think of The Brass Verdict. I haven’t read any of Michael Connelly’s work but have heard good things about it.
