2009: The Sunday Salon – Happy New Year Edition!

It’s been a little quiet around here lately!  There’s a couple of reasons for that.

One, December was a pretty low-volume reading month for me.  I only finished 8 books. So, not many reviews!  I do have some more challenges to post about in the coming week. I also did finish Eclipse by Richard North Patterson this week, so that review is coming.

Two, most of my spare time this past week has been spent cataloguing books.  I came back from Thanksgiving and Christmas with a lot of books my parents and in-laws were ready to get rid of.  I’m now selling stuff on half.com, so if you’re interested in checking out my inventory, it’s here!  I don’t expect to really make much money, it’s more about finding homes for the books.  They’re also listed on PaperbackSwap, plus a lot more.  I had a lot of book club editions that can’t be sold on half.com. So, everything’s now catalogued, but it’s still in piles on my living room floor and on my kitchen table. Tomorrow night, I must shelve!

2008 in Review

I didn’t quite reach my reading goals this year, but 107 books is nothing to sneeze at! My goal each year is to read one more book than the year before, so my goal for 2009 will be 108 books.

I don’t think I could possibly choose a favorite book that I read in 2008, but I can pick out my favorite for each month:

January – 2008: #6 – Dead Witch Walking (Kim Harrison)

February – 2008: #18 – Triptych (Karin Slaughter)

March – 2008: #25 – One Mississippi (Mark Childress)

April – 2008: #35 – A Thousand Splendid Suns (Khaled Hosseini)

May – 2008: #38 – Hide (Lisa Gardner)

June – 2008: #52 – Sharp Teeth (Toby Barlow)

July – 2008: #65 – The Secret History of the Pink Carnation (Lauren Willig)

August – 2008: #72 – The Finishing School (Michele Martinez)

September – 2008: #83 – The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time (Mark Haddon)

October – 2008: #89 – Nefertiti (Michelle Moran)

November – 2008: #95 – Sweetheart (Chelsea Cain)

December – 2008: #100 – The Dirty Secrets Club (Meg Gardiner)

Here’s to another great year of reading!

I bought One Mississippi this summer because I loved Crazy in Alabama. After seeing you liked it, I’ll be moving it up in my TBR pile.

Happy New Year, Jaime! I have The Dirty Secrets Club on my iPod, so I’m glad to see that it was a monthly favorite.

Jaime! Finding new homes for my used book is a passion of mine too! I’m on pbs, but also Bookins.com where I can usually find more popular books. I checked, both of your Amazon wish list books “Waiting to Surface” and “Public Enemies” are available there.

Their system is a bit different then pbs, Bookins.com charges shipping on delivery, but outgoing shipments are free (they give you postage). If you join, please use this link so I will get credit for referring you: http://www.bookins.com/index.php?p1=3MF2c05cA

    Enjoy!
