2009: The Sunday Salon – Up For Grabs Edition
This has been a nice relaxing weekend around the ol’ homestead, and I have gotten some reading done. I guess it’s been several Sundays since I’ve written a Salon post!
I finished four books this week, a good total for me. I finished A Few Demons More by Kim Harrison, The Kiss Murder by Mehmet Murat Somer, An Uncommon Reader by Alan Bennett, and The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. These were all good, but The Hunger Games was EXCELLENT. I loved it. I think it actually raised my heartbeat while I was listening to it. The Uncommon Reader was my book club book this month, and I wondered how long the discussion would go since it’s just a short novella. I shouldn’t have been worried, it was another great discussion! We have one member that really challenges us, and I think that makes things really interesting.
Currently I’m reading The Lost Hours by Karen White for a book tour in a couple of weeks, and have The Masque of the Black Tulip by Lauren Willig going on my iPhone. Since I finished The Hunger Games on Friday I haven’t started a new audio book, but I think I’m going to listen to Matilda by Roald Dahl and then Drop Shot by Harlan Coben.
I gave away a copy of Jansen Mancheski’s The Chemist last week, and now, right here, I’m going to give away three more books! These I will give to the first people that want them (one per person unless no one else is interested in one you’re interested in). These are ARCs that have been languishing in the pile for several weeks/months and I’ve just lost interest in them. Just post a comment if you’re interested in one, and I’ll gladly mail it to you! The books available are:
- American Rust by Philipp Meyer (2 ARCs available)
- The Gone-Away World by Nick Harkaway
Challenge-wise, I finished up a challenge this week! The 2009 Audiobook Challenge is now complete (though I haven’t done my wrap-up post yet)! You can visit my challenges page to see how I’m progressing on my other challenges.
Have a great week of reading!

I’ve heard so much about both books that I’d love to get either. Thanks for the giveaway!
I would LOVE to read American Rust by Philipp Meyer. <3
I’d love American Rust.
Congratulations on finishing the audio book challenge. I pretty much stink at challenges so I’ve given up on them.
I wonder if I had listened to The Hunger Games if I would had been less likely to look for FAULTS (because I kind of did because I was dumb and read Battle Royale before it). I bet it is pretty exciting to listen to and I should give it a try; although I bet it’s way popular. My library has one copy of the book itself and the waiting list is HUGE. The sequel comes out this September. I have to admit I’m pretty curious about what’s going to happen next even though I didn’t fall in love with the story like most. I heart dystopia. Have you heard about Graceling? I saw that and the Hunger Games reviewed a lot by the same people and if they loved the one they loved the other. You might be interested? Unless you’ve read it already and I’m TOO LATE.
